Perfect for a cool summer drink, this homemade iced tea features a peach syrup made from fresh peaches and sugar, mixed with chilled black tea and served over ice for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Tea
- 3 black tea bags
- 4 cups boiling water
Peach Syrup
- 3 large ripe peaches, chopped
- 2 cups water, divided
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (use 1/2 cup for a sweeter tea)
To Serve
- Ice cubes
- Peach slices (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Make the black tea: Bring 4 cups of water to a light simmer on the stovetop or in an electric kettle. Remove from heat and add the tea bags, ensuring they are fully submerged. Steep for 5 minutes, then carefully remove the tea bags. Let the tea cool completely before placing it in the refrigerator to chill.
- Prepare the peach syrup: In a blender, combine 1 cup of water, chopped peaches, and sugar. Blend briefly for 2-3 seconds to break down the peaches. Pour the mixture into a large pot and add the remaining 1 cup of water. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it comes to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the syrup steep for an additional 30 minutes to enhance the flavor.
- Strain the syrup: Pour the peach syrup through a fine sieve into a large pitcher or jar, pressing down on the puree to extract all the juice. Discard the solids and refrigerate the syrup to chill for about 30 minutes.
- Assemble the iced tea: Combine the chilled black tea and peach syrup in a large pitcher. Stir thoroughly to blend the flavors. Add ice cubes and garnish with peach slices if desired. Serve chilled and enjoy this refreshing peach iced tea.
Notes
- Use ripe peaches for the best sweetness and flavor.
- Adjust sugar quantity to taste; increase to 1/2 cup for a sweeter tea.
- Ensure the black tea is fully cooled before combining to avoid diluting the syrup's flavor.
- The peach syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For a stronger tea flavor, you can steep the tea bags longer but avoid bitterness by not exceeding 7 minutes.
