Description

This Baked Honey Glazed Chicken recipe features juicy chicken drumsticks marinated in a sweet and savory blend of honey, soy sauce, orange juice, Dijon mustard, garlic, and ginger. After a 6-hour marinade, the chicken is baked to perfection with a caramelized glaze, garnished with sesame seeds and chives for an irresistible, flavorful meal perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 5 lbs chicken drumsticks

Marinade

  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced or finely grated
  • 1 Tbsp ginger, peeled and finely grated

Garnish (optional)

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chives

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, orange juice, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, and grated ginger until well combined. Reserve 2/3 cup of this marinade and refrigerate for later use.
  2. Marinate the chicken: Place the chicken drumsticks in a large ziplock or food saver bag. Pour the remaining marinade over the chicken, remove as much air as possible, and seal the bag. Refrigerate for 6 hours or overnight, turning the bag occasionally to ensure the marinade evenly coats the chicken.
  3. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 400°F (204°C) and position the rack in the center. Line a rimmed baking sheet or roasting pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  4. Bake the chicken: Arrange the chicken drumsticks skin-side up on the baking sheet, ensuring they do not touch. Pour enough marinade into the pan to coat the bottom and discard the rest from the bag. Bake for 25 minutes at 400°F.
  5. Flip and continue baking: Turn the drumsticks skin-side down and bake for another 20 minutes. For caramelized skin, turn the drumsticks skin-side up again and broil on high for 3-4 minutes until the skin is browned and crispy.
  6. Prepare glaze and finish: While baking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 7 minutes or until the sauce thickens into a syrupy consistency. Remove from heat and brush the glaze over the baked chicken. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped chives before serving.

Notes

  • Marinating overnight will enhance the flavor and tenderness of the chicken.
  • Use parchment paper when baking to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  • Broiling at the end caramelizes the skin; watch closely to avoid burning.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari.
  • Leftover baked chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
