Description

Delicious and crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos featuring tender shredded chicken mixed with savory Asian-inspired flavors, wrapped in wonton wrappers and fried to golden perfection. Perfect as an appetizer or a fun main dish, these tacos are filled with a flavorful blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and veggies, then fried for a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

Chicken Mixture

  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup cabbage, shredded
  • 1/4 cup carrots, shredded
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce

Tacos

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Optional Toppings

  • Sliced green onions
  • Extra shredded cabbage
  • Cilantro
  • Sriracha sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook chicken: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chicken breast until browned and fully cooked, turning once to ensure even cooking. The internal temperature should reach 165°F. Remove the chicken and allow it to cool enough to shred.
  2. Prepare filling: Return the shredded chicken to the skillet. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, shredded cabbage, and shredded carrots. Stir and cook together for 1 minute to combine flavors.
  3. Add hoisin sauce: Stir in the hoisin sauce until the chicken and vegetables are evenly coated. Remove the skillet from heat.
  4. Fill wontons: Spoon the chicken mixture into the center of each wonton wrapper.
  5. Fold wontons: Fold each wonton wrapper in half diagonally to form a taco shape. There is no need to press or seal the edges.
  6. Heat oil: Pour about 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil into a separate pan and heat over medium-high heat. When the oil shimmers, it’s ready for frying.
  7. Fry tacos: Carefully place the filled wonton tacos in the hot oil. Fry each side, including the folded edge, for 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the tacos to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately with optional toppings such as sliced green onions, extra cabbage, cilantro, and a drizzle of sriracha sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Make sure the chicken is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F for food safety.
  • Keep an eye on the oil temperature while frying to prevent burning or undercooking.
  • These tacos are best served fresh to maintain their crispy texture.
  • Feel free to customize the toppings to your taste or dietary preference.
  • For a lighter option, you can bake the filled wonton tacos at 400°F for 8-10 minutes until crisp instead of frying.
