Ingredients
Wontons and Sauce
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil, divided
- 8 ounces shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- One 12-ounce bag frozen chicken cilantro wontons (mini size preferred)
- 1-2 cups chicken broth (adjust based on desired soupiness)
- 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1-2 tablespoons chili crisp
Garnishes
- Green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Sauté Mushrooms: Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced shiitake mushrooms and sauté until they soften and develop a rich, savory flavor. During the last minute or two, add the grated garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add Wontons and Simmer: Add the frozen chicken wontons directly to the skillet along with the chicken broth and teriyaki sauce. Cover the skillet with a lid and let everything simmer gently for 5 minutes, allowing the wontons to cook through and the flavors to meld together.
- Finish and Garnish: Remove the lid and stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and chili crisp to add richness and a spicy kick. Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving hot.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of chicken broth to achieve your preferred brothiness; less for thicker sauce, more for soupier consistency.
- Use mini chicken cilantro wontons for the best flavor and texture, but other frozen chicken wontons work well too.
- Chili crisp amount can be adjusted depending on your desired spice level.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute wontons with vegetable filled ones and use vegetable broth.
- Serve immediately to enjoy wontons at their softest and freshest.
