Ingredients
Puff Pastry
- 1 - 17.3 oz box frozen puff pastry, thawed (2-sheet box)
Cookie Dough
- 1.5 cups prepared cookie dough (I used a tub of Toll House)
Egg Wash
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Additional
- flour for surface dusting
- grease for muffin pan
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a muffin pan thoroughly to ensure the pastry does not stick during baking.
- Roll Puff Pastry: On a clean, lightly floured surface, roll out both sheets of thawed puff pastry to a thickness of about 1/4 inch, slightly thinner than the original packaging. Try to make both sheets equal in size.
- Add Cookie Dough: Crumble the prepared cookie dough evenly over the bottom sheet of puff pastry. Press it lightly to cover most of the surface area uniformly.
- Top Layer: Lay the second sheet of puff pastry evenly on top of the cookie dough layer, covering it completely.
- Cut and Roll: Cut the layered puff pastry with cookie dough into 9 even strips, each about 1 to 1.25 inches wide. Roll each strip up like a cinnamon roll tightly.
- Arrange in Pan: Place each rolled strip into the greased muffin pan cavities, spacing them evenly.
- Egg Wash: Mix the egg with a tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of each puff pastry roll generously with the egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. To prevent the tops from browning too quickly, cover them loosely with foil near the end of baking if needed.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before removing from the muffin pan. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is thoroughly thawed before rolling to prevent cracking.
- You can use any cookie dough flavor; chocolate chip dough works well for a classic combination.
- Roll the dough firmly but not too tight to allow the pastry to puff nicely during baking.
- Use fresh egg wash to achieve a shiny, golden crust on the pastries.
- Covering with foil late in baking helps prevent over-browning but still allows cooking through.
