Description

These Cranberry Meatballs are a perfect balance of tangy cranberry sauce and smoky barbecue flavor, slow-cooked to tender perfection. Ideal as a savory appetizer or party snack, they combine juicy meatballs with a luscious sweet and tangy glaze, finished with a hint of fresh orange juice for brightness.

Ingredients

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 bottle barbecue sauce (18 ounces)
  • 1 can jellied or whole berry cranberry sauce (14 ounces or 1 ½ cups homemade cranberry sauce)
  • ¼ cup orange juice

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds frozen meatballs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Freshly chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In the slow cooker, combine the barbecue sauce, cranberry sauce, and orange juice. Stir thoroughly to blend the flavors evenly.
  2. Add meatballs: Place the frozen meatballs into the sauce mixture and stir gently to coat each meatball well with the sauce.
  3. Slow cook: Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours. This slow cooking process allows the meatballs to become tender and soak up the rich sauce flavors.
  4. Season and serve: After cooking, taste the sauce and adjust with salt and pepper as needed. Optionally, sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top before serving warm as an appetizer or party dish.

Notes

  • Using frozen meatballs saves preparation time, but fresh meatballs can also be used; adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • If you want a thicker sauce, cook uncovered for the last 30 minutes to reduce the liquid.
  • Fresh homemade cranberry sauce can be substituted for canned for a fresher flavor.
  • Serve with toothpicks for easy appetizer handling.
