Description

Dalgona Coffee, also known as Korean Whipped Coffee, is a delightful and visually stunning beverage made by whipping instant coffee, sugar, and hot water into a creamy, frothy topping that is served over milk. This easy-to-make recipe takes just minutes and offers a perfect balance of rich coffee flavor and smooth texture, ideal for a cozy morning or an energizing afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Whipped Coffee Mixture

  • 1 Tbsp instant coffee (I used Moccona vanilla praline for added flavor)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp hot water

To Serve

  • 3/4 cup milk (approximately 1 cup, chilled or heated)
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture: Combine the instant coffee, sugar, and hot water in a mixing bowl. Mix well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  2. Whisk Until Stiff Peaks Form: Using a handheld mixer, stand mixer, or milk frother, whisk the mixture on high speed for 2-4 minutes until it becomes thick and frothy with stiff peaks. If you don't have an electric whisk, you can whisk manually by hand approximately 400 times to achieve the same effect.
  3. Prepare the Milk Base: Place ice cubes into a mug if desired, then pour chilled or heated milk over them.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Scoop the whipped coffee mixture on top of the milk, creating a layered drink. Serve immediately and enjoy the creamy, luscious texture and rich coffee flavor.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of sugar to your taste preference or substitute with a sugar alternative.
  • For a vegan option, use plant-based milk such as almond, oat, or soy milk.
  • Whisking by hand is effective but requires patience and effort; electric whiskers speed up the process.
  • Serve over cold or hot milk depending on your preference; adding ice cubes makes a refreshing iced coffee drink.
  • Instant coffee is essential to achieve the frothy texture; regular brewed coffee will not whip properly.
