Description
Fire Cider is a potent, tangy herbal tonic crafted from fresh ginger, horseradish, onion, garlic, jalapeño peppers, lemon, and warming spices infused in apple cider vinegar. Known for its immune-boosting and digestive properties, this vibrant elixir is sweetened with raw honey and aged for several weeks to develop its signature bold and spicy flavor.
Ingredients
Fresh Ingredients
- ½ cup organic ginger root (freshly peeled and grated)
- ½ cup freshly grated horseradish root
- 1 medium organic onion (chopped)
- 10 cloves organic garlic (crushed or chopped)
- 2 organic jalapeño peppers (chopped)
- 1 organic lemon (zest and juice)
Dry Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons dried rosemary leaves
- 1 Tablespoon turmeric powder (or 2 Tablespoons freshly grated organic turmeric root)
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne powder
Liquids and Sweeteners
- organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar (enough to fully cover ingredients in a quart-sized jar)
- ¼ cup organic raw honey (or to taste)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Add the grated ginger, horseradish, chopped onion, crushed garlic, chopped jalapeño peppers, lemon zest and juice, dried rosemary leaves, turmeric powder, and cayenne powder into a clean quart-sized jar.
- Fill with Vinegar: Pour organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar into the jar until all the ingredients are fully submerged and the vinegar reaches the top of the jar. Ensuring all solids are covered prevents spoilage during fermentation.
- Seal and Store: Place a piece of natural parchment paper under the jar lid to prevent the vinegar from contacting the metal or use a plastic lid. Shake the jar gently to combine the ingredients. Store the jar in a dark, cool place for 4-6 weeks, shaking it gently each day to encourage infusion.
- Strain the Mixture: After 4-6 weeks of infusion, strain the contents through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean jar, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible. The remaining solids can be discarded, composted, or used in cooking, such as stir-fries.
- Add Honey: Stir in the organic raw honey until completely incorporated. Adjust the sweetness by adding more honey if desired.
- Store and Enjoy: Transfer the fire cider to a sealed container and store it in the refrigerator or a cool, dark place. Consume 1-2 tablespoons as needed for its revitalizing and immune-supporting benefits.
Notes
- Use a glass quart-sized jar with a secure lid for best results.
- Shake the jar daily during the infusion period to mix ingredients and prevent mold.
- The longer the infusion time, the stronger and more pungent the fire cider will become.
- Adjust cayenne and jalapeño amounts to control heat level.
- Fire cider is a natural tonic and can be taken before cold weather or during illness to help boost immunity.
- If fresh turmeric root is available, it can substitute the turmeric powder for an earthier flavor.
- Ensure all ingredients are fully submerged in vinegar to avoid spoilage.
