Description
This Grilled Cheese Burger recipe combines the best of two worlds: a juicy, cheesy burger patty paired with perfectly grilled cheese sandwich bread. In just 20 minutes, you can enjoy a decadent meal featuring two types of cheese—American and mozzarella—sandwiched between thick slices of buttery, mayo-spread white bread, all cooked on the stovetop using a cast-iron skillet for that perfect crispy crust.
Ingredients
Meat and Cheese
- 10 oz Ground Beef
- 2 slices American Cheese
- 3 oz Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Bread and Condiments
- 4 slices thick White Bread
- 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
- Yellow Mustard (to taste)
Seasonings
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Form Patties: Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and shape each into a patty. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper to enhance the flavor.
- Preheat Pan: Place a cast-iron or frying pan over high heat and allow it to fully preheat for about one minute to ensure even cooking and a good sear.
- Cook Patties: Press each patty down to about ¼ inch thickness. Cook them for 4 minutes on one side, then flip. Add the slices of American cheese on the patties during the last 2 minutes of cooking on the second side so the cheese melts beautifully.
- Prepare Bread: Spread a thin, even layer of mayonnaise on each slice of the thick white bread to add flavor and help achieve a golden crust.
- Assemble Sandwich: Place two slices of bread, mayo side down, onto the pan over medium-low heat. Add a generous layer of shredded mozzarella, then place the cheesy burger patty on top. Drizzle with yellow mustard according to your taste preference. Cover with the remaining bread slices, mayo side facing outward.
- Grill Sandwich: Cook the assembled sandwiches for about 2 minutes on each side. Flip carefully to ensure both sides turn golden brown, and the mozzarella inside melts perfectly, creating a warm, gooey center.
Notes
- Using a cast-iron skillet ensures even heat distribution and a great sear on both the burger and bread.
- Adjust the thickness of the patties according to your preference but keep in mind thinner patties cook faster.
- Feel free to swap American cheese for cheddar for a sharper taste.
- To make this recipe spicier, add a dash of hot sauce to the mustard or mayo before spreading.
- Make sure the heat is not too high during grilling the sandwich to avoid burning the bread before the cheese melts.
