Ingredients
Steak and Seasoning
- 2 sirloin steaks (or other thin steaks)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Butter and/or olive oil for cooking the steak (about 1 tablespoon each butter and olive oil)
Garnishes and Toppings
- 1 shallot, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh oregano, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- Little tomatoes (grape or cherry), to taste, sliced
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Arugula, to taste
- Lettuce (such as butter leaf), to taste
- Sour cream, to taste
- 1 lime, quartered
Tortillas
- 10 flour or corn tortillas
Instructions
- Warm tortillas: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Wrap the tortillas in aluminum foil and place them in the oven to warm gently while you prepare the other ingredients.
- Season the steaks: Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over both sides of the sirloin steaks to enhance their natural flavor.
- Prepare garnishes: Finely chop the shallot, fresh oregano, parsley, and cilantro. Slice the avocado and grape or cherry tomatoes into bite-sized pieces for easy topping.
- Cook the steak: Heat a cast iron skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add a mixture of about 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil to the pan or brush onto the grill grates. Cook the steaks until they reach your desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side for medium rare. Remove from heat and let rest briefly before slicing.
- Assemble tacos: Lay warm tortillas flat, add slices of steak, and top with the chopped shallots and herbs, avocado slices, tomatoes, arugula, and lettuce. Add a dollop of sour cream if desired. Finish each taco with a squeeze of fresh lime juice for brightness.
Notes
- For best flavor, use fresh herbs and ripe avocado.
- Choose flour or corn tortillas according to your preference or dietary needs.
- Allow steak to rest after cooking to retain juices and improve tenderness.
- You can adjust the cooking time of the steak based on thickness and your preferred level of doneness.
- Optional: add a spicy salsa or hot sauce for extra heat.
